Happy Friday! Last night the craziest thing happened – it SNOWED here in Austin! It hardly ever snows here in Austin, so it was quite an exciting surprise. There is something so fun & magical about snowfall that really makes things feel so festive! Today I’m excited to share the second part of my holiday home tour (did you catch Monday’s post?) and share how I decorated our porch for the holidays. This is the first year that I’ve had a porch that I can decorate, and I had so much fun putting everything together! Here are a few tips & tricks for decorating your porch, balcony, or entryway for the holidays!
Pick a Theme – I decided to go with a “Classic Christmas” theme, meaning I wanted lots of greenery with pops of red! I wrapped our porch tree with red garland, added a few poinsettias, and topped off our wreath with a big red bow. I decided to do a faux tree & faux garland (both pre-lit!) but went with a fresh pine wreath for the door. I really love the mix of the two, and the smell of the wreath is so fresh every time I walk in the door!
Opt for faux plants for easy maintenance / if your porch is shaded – These poinsettias I picked up from At Home are actually faux – can you believe that?! I decided to go for faux plants on the porch for easy maintenance, and I can re-use them year after year. Also, poinsettia leaves are toxic to animals, so with these I don’t have to worry about my pups!
Lights, lights, lights! One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is seeing everyone’s houses all lit up with Christmas lights. And when decorating your porch, do not be shy about adding in holiday lights to make things extra festive! I personally love white lights (they are so classic!), so I made sure that we had them in our tree, garland, and we also wrapped our column & trimmed our house in them. I never want to take them down!
