Happy Thursday! In today’s edition of #FOFBeautyWeek, I am so excited to introduce Beauty Counter to you all! As I mentioned in Tuesday’s post, I’ve been trying to use more natural skincare & cosmetics products lately – the skin is the body’s largest organ, and who wants to be putting chemicals all over your skin?! My good friend Logan of The Style Lo-Down recently introduced me to the Beauty Counter brand and after learning more about it & trying it out myself, I am so excited to share it with you today!
Before we jump in too deep… did you know that the beauty industry is not closely regulated by US law? In the past 20 years, the European Union has banned the use of over 1400 chemicals in beauty products, and the US has only banned 30. The FDA does not require that cosmetic ingredients be assessed for safety before they go on to the market, and they cannot issue a product recall. I don’t know about you, but if I am being honest… I never read the ingredient list on my skincare or makeup until a few months ago when I started researching more about natural skincare. I just kind of assumed that the ingredients being used were regulated and safe. So needless to say, I was shocked when I found out that some cosmetic products contain phthalates (a chemical used in plastics), synthetic musks, and other ingredients linked to hormone disruption and allergies – all of which are not required by law to be listed on the product label.
Enter Beauty Counter – their mission is to make progress in the regulation of the beauty industry & hold companies accountable for their ingredients. They area all about education & transparency, and my most favorite thing about this company is that they have banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through what they call the “Never List”. So you know exactly what your skincare & cosmetics are composed of and never have to worry about all of the bad stuff. In addition to creating safe products, they make their skincare process so easy to understand! They have 3-piece collections that contain a mask, mist, and oil specially formulated to address specific skin concerns, like Brightening, Plumping, or Balancing. Since I am always so tired (#neverenoughsleep), I’ve been using the Brightening line and it really has helped to liven up my skin and make it feel so revived. Here I’m using the No. 1 Brightening Mask, which can be used 2-3x per week, packed full of nutrients (kaolin clay + vitamin C), and is helps to reveal a brighter-looking complexion. Not only is it good for my skin, but I feel good about using it on my skin because I know it is safe!
