Happy Thursday!  Today I want to talk about one of the more difficult parts of wardrobing – and that is figuring out just exactly how to transition your closet from one season to the next.  While we still have a few months until fall is truly upon us, now is the time of year to start thinking ahead, taking inventory of what you have in your closet, making a list of things you’d like to add to your wardrobe, and to start thinking about what pieces you have that can help to transition from summer into fall without skipping a beat.  Texas is such a strange place to live because it pretty much goes from being hot to cold with not much in between, so even when I’m craving that crisp fall air in October (aka wanting to wear my riding boots & blanket scarves), chances are it’s still too hot outside to do so.  That’s why “transitional” pieces are key!  Today I thought I’d share a few of my tips and tricks for nailing that look each and every time – let me know in the comments what you think!

  1. Look For Pieces With a Fall Vibe But a Summer Silhouette – This is one of my favorite ways to transition between seasons, because it lets you feel like you’re dressing for fall but in actuality, you’re still being appropriate for the weather you’re experiencing.  A perfect example of this is the sleeveless sweater I shared in yesterday’s post, or the burgundy tank from today’s look (which is on sale for less than $20!  The lace detailing is just darling on it!).  Both of these pieces are perfect for warm autumn days because the color/texture puts you in a fall sort of mindset, but they are both tanks which helps you to stay cooler when it is still hot out.  Long sleeve dresses, lightweight sweaters & tops, or tanks/short sleeve blouses with fall colors & prints make perfect transitional pieces!
  2. Pair 1 Fall Piece with 1 Summer Piece – This tip is so easy to implement because it is a fun way to mix and match items that you already have in your closet.  Examples of this include wearing shorts with a long sleeve top or sweater (like in this post), pairing ankle boots with your favorite sundress, or throwing on white jeans with a cute fall top!
  3. When in Doubt, Accessorize It Up!  This tip is also really fun and easy, because you can nail that transitional look just by adding in an element of fall through your accessories.  Think: a leopard clutch, a darker shade of lipstick, maybe a black watch or some bolder accessories.  The possibilities are endless!
  4. Don’t Forget to Check the Weather – The weather tends to get a little unpredictable when the seasons start changing, so as always be sure to check the weather before you get dressed to make sure your outfit is appropriate.  There is nothing worse than wearing a sweater that is too thick on a day when it’s sunny and 90 degrees, or wearing shorts on a day when it’s windy and rainy.  The key to nailing your style in between seasons is to make sure you’re dressed for the weather!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
