Happy September – can you believe it is September already?! Fall is just around the corner! September is always such a strange month for dressing for me living in Texas… all of the stores have out “fall” clothes and I am ready to transition my wardrobe from tanktops & sandals to boots & scarves, but it is always still SO hot in the month of September! Because it usually doesn’t start to feel like “fall” here in Texas until the middle of October, this next month is all about mastering the art of the transitional wardrobe. Today I’m sharing some tips & tricks on how to dress for this awkward time of year as well as a few wardrobe must-haves.
One trick that I have learned to transition from summer to fall is to buy lightweight pieces (blouses, dresses, short sleeve tops, scarves, etc). in fall colors so that you can feel like you are dressing for fall without being too hot/sweating all day long. I also love to pair long sleeve tops with shorts on the weekends, dresses with booties/ankle boots, and lightweight sweaters over tank tops to start making my wardrobe feel like fall before it even feels like fall outside.
Lightweight Tops: Perfect for now & can be layered under vests or sweaters when it gets chillier. Wear with shorts and ankle boots on warmer days & jeans and knee-high boots on cooler days.
Chiffon Blouse (I have this and wear it about once a week! I want to get it in the other colors!) | Sleeveless Cowl Neck Sweater | Cross Front Blouse | Chambray Button Up (You can never go wrong with chambray – it’s perfect year-round!)
Boots, Ankle Boots, Lace Up Flats: Footwear can be a little tricky for this time of year, which is why I love to wear simple flats & ankle boots most days. Peep toes are also so perfect for this transition weather! I would probably save the over-the-knee boots for when it gets chillier, but I had to share them here because this pair is only $45! Such a steal! I recently bought them and I can’t wait to wear them.
Long Sleeve Dresses: One of my favorite looks for fall & the summer-to-fall transition time is a dress with ankle boots – I think it is such a chic look! It makes you feel like it is fall outside, but you will stay nice and cool.
Rich Textures, Warn Colors, Fall Prints: Like I mentioned above, the best way to tackle this transition time is to add in some fall textures, colors, or prints into your current summer wardrobe. Even small doses through your accessories can do the trick!
Flare Cords | Lipstick (sometimes a darker lip shade can help you feel like fall, even when the temperatures don’t!) | Vince Camuto Leopard Handbag (currently 50% off! This bag was part of the #NSALE so if you missed out on it then, now is your chance) | Kendra Scott Earrings | Michael Kors Plum Suede Bag (how pretty is this plum colored suede?!) | Burberry Lightweight Checked Scarf
Lightweight Jackets & Sweaters: Because eventually it will start to get chilly, and you want to be prepared!
Utliity Jacket | Plaid Poncho (I have this and I love it so much – it’s perfect for throwing on over an outfit on a chilly day and can also be folded up to be worn as a scarf) | Denim Jacket | Burgundy Sweater
Thanks for stopping by! Do you have any tips or tricks to transition your style from summer to fall?
